08 AprNew Song Demo

In the songwriting post, I talked about how I was going to try to write a song in the AABA form. Well, this isn’t it — that’s still to come.

The Classical Guitar

The Classical Guitar

Early Glimpse
I actually haven’t written a whole lot in the recent past, but last night I came up with something and thought I’d share it. It’s in the very early stages … the earliest possible stage, in fact. This is the very first demo recording, just to record the idea, so it’s not something musicians usually share, but I thought it might be interesting to give a glimpse of the process from the beginning.

Production Notes
Also, as far as production, as I mentioned previously, I write on my acoustic guitar. It’s a classical guitar actually. I was too lazy to set up a mic for it, or to get out my electric guitar and the interface, so this is my classical guitar recorded with my laptop’s built in mic. The mic’s recording level was really high and it ended up with a really lo-fi distorted sound. I kept it because it reminded me of how Keith Richards got the distorted acoustic guitar sound for Street Fighting Man.

Drums, Bass, No Vocals
I added some drums and programmed bass. No vocals yet.

Enjoy!

Update

Someone commented that they’d like to hear it at a faster tempo. So here are a couple of other versions.

Version 2: I added eighth notes to the hi-hats in the chorus so it wouldn’t drag as much.

Version 3: Sped up the tempo to 86 bpm (Version 1 and 2 are at 79 bmp).

Dude, could you be any more boring than that?? WTF? This is as creative as a health dump. Get over this point and start actually DOING something with your music…

I think it needs some cats fighting over pussy……….just to make it interesting. It’s really a downer the way it is. Three chord songs are not real creative. If you like that SLOW beat, maybe you should not be doing a metal sound. Grow a little…. and good luck.

potential hit brother… like the melody… i dont see anything wrong with the current tempo… production and lyrics… long path… good luck, I wish you the best…

sorry, bored 30 seconds into it… if that. This is the type of thing you record for yourself and noodle over until your have something unique… not something you post for the world to hear. If I had to be specific, Id’ say the guitar has no solid timing, which is oddly appropriate since neither do the drums. The tones are okay, but I suppose that’s to be expected when recording direct, and using a drum program. Still, think to yourself… why would someone listen to this for however long the song is. If you don’t give them a reason to, you’ll be lucky to get this much out of them.

Thanks for checking it out. Yea, it’s a new concept to share this kind of stuff as it happens. It’s perhaps interesting to some and not to others … and perhaps risky overall. I say “why not?”

Come back to hear how it progresses or when the album is done and see if you like it more!!!

You know I just love this song by fit4failure about the devil. This sound reminds me of that song.

I just looked them up and checked out the “Devil Song.” Yea, I can hear how it reminds you of it. Pretty cool.
